IN STUDIO OF LE CHARBONNAGE
Group Show: Julia Białas, Marta Jabłońska, Maja Kozłowska,
Helena Stiasny, Katarzyna Strzykalska

This exhibition brings together works by five artists created during their residency at Le Charbonnage in Genk, Belgium. Their stay in the former coal-mining site, now transformed into a space for artistic research and production, became an opportunity to pause, shift perspective, and engage more attentively with both their surroundings and themselves.

While the works presented here differ in medium, subject matter, and artistic language, they are united by a shared experience of observation and transformation. Marta Jabłońska reflects on the process of inhabiting the unfamiliar and negotiating a sense of belonging. Julia Białas explores the fluidity of identity through intuitive, hybrid worlds situated between the human, the animal, and the imagined. Helena Stiasny reclaims female subjectivity, intertwining contemporary experience with archetypes and art historical narratives. Katarzyna Strzykalska draws upon religious iconography to examine corporeality, suffering, and the emotional responses images provoke. Maja Kozłowska moves freely between painting, sound, and materiality, creating a multidimensional reflection on contemporary experience.

Rather than documenting a specific place, these works record a series of encounters—with a new environment, with personal sensibilities, and with those details that often escape notice in the rhythm of everyday life. Together, they form a meditation on shifting perspectives and on the ways distance from home can sharpen our perception of the landscapes we carry within ourselves.
